This course explores the necessary components of early intervention in childhood bladder and bowel dysfunction.
Pediatric pelvic health physical and occupational therapy is the gold standard and first line treatment of pediatric bladder and bowel dysfunction but there are not enough trained therapists to treat these children.
Early intervention is key for children who have bladder and bowel dysfunction and basic bladder and bowel education is where all pediatric pelvic health specialists will start.
Empowering rehab professionals and those directly working with the pediatric population to screen, educate and appropriately refer, may improve the quality of life and mental health well-being of countless children and adolescents. Not all children will grow out of bedwetting and accidents and the earlier they can start treatment, the better their outcomes.
Everyone who interacts with children should have the basic knowledge base of bladder and bowel health.
How the course works
This course starts with an overview of bladder and bowel dysfunction in children and adolescents, covering screening, awareness, education and when to make referrals.
The lessons focus on practical application and early intervention, including gastrointestinal and urinary anatomy, as well as the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of common bladder and bowel dysfunctions.
Next, we move into the treatment section - a guided bladder and bowel retraining program for children and adolescents.
We explore techniques for educating young people and demonstrate cues and techniques for treatment. We cover breathing, hands-free massage, core exercises, balance training and more.
“I am so grateful I found Dr. Denham and her course for Childhood Bladder & Bowel Dysfunction when I did! I have been trying for years to figure out why my 11-year old son is still bedwetting and desperately seeking how to help him. It has taken a serious toll on his mental and emotional health! His pediatrician would tell me year-after-year that he would grow out of it. I knew instinctually that wasn't correct. I also have a 2-year old who's suffered with chronic constipation her whole life! Dr. Denham's course has given me some valuable insight into what is really going on with my children! I can apply the knowledge I gained immediately and the exercise demonstrations provided are extremely helpful! It's really great that she uses real kids to demonstrate the exercises. Dr. Denham is so knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about what she does! Thank you!!”
